Feeling Worse Before You Feel Better

Therapists rarely tell their clients that things may get worse before they get better but it's oftentimes true. You're seeking  help because you haven't been able to resolve whatever is bothering you on your own or with the help of friends or family. Now that you've decided invest in professional help you deserve to know the process may be intense and uncomfortable at times.

When things become intense, the challenge is to stick with it.  Remember, in order to find relief, whatever is bothering you must be discussed openly and honestly. From there you will embark on a journey toward greater insight which hopefully brings you to action.

A good therapist will establish a safe space and solid rapport for the first few sessions while completing a thorough intake and assessment of your situation. Once the facts are on the table, symptoms can be relieved and goals achieved.
